How NearMyHouse works

Three steps from a postcode to the official planning record.

  1. Step 1: Search a postcode

Enter a postcode in England and choose a distance: 100m, 250m, 500m, 1km or 5km. NearMyHouse lists recent planning applications it can place on the map, nearest first.

  2. Step 2: Read the plain-English summary

Open an application to see an AI-assisted summary written only from the official planning record, alongside the key dates and the original description.

  3. Step 3: Open the official record

Where the official data includes a direct link, use “View official planning application” to check the full details on the council's own record. Some records have no direct link — in that case, search the council's planning register using the planning reference shown on the page. The official record is always authoritative.

Good to know

  • NearMyHouse is currently available in England only.
  • Results depend on the council data available for each area, so some applications or details may be missing.
  • Always rely on the official council record for complete and authoritative details.
